Tanggol renewed as Chancellor of MSU-IIT

Dr. Sukarno D. Tanggol emerged from the MSU Board of Regents (BOR) meeting today in Manila with a new mandate and determination to serve as Chancellor of MSU-IIT for another five-year term.
The BOR followed the unanimous recommendation of the seven-member evaluation committee formed in July that assessed Tanggol’s performance as Chancellor and determined his fitness to be given a second term.
The evaluation committee was chaired by Dr. Emerlinda R. Roman, the first woman President of the University of the Philippines (2005-2011).
The Roman-led evaluation committee was in the campus last September 12 to conduct consultations and interviews with Institute officials, faculty and staff members, students, alumni, and representatives from the community.
Roman reported on the committee’s findings at the BOR meeting, after which, the regents immediately ratified its recommendation to allow Tanggol to serve until September 2021.
Tanggol renewed his oath of office as head of MSU-IIT at around 9:10 in the morning before Dr. Patricia B. Licuanan, chair of the BOR and Commission on Higher Education (CHEd).
“I am both happy and thankful that I have been entrusted with another chance to continue serving the MSU-IIT constituents,” Tanggol said.
Tanggol viewed his reappointment also as a challenge to follow through with projects already started, and to see that these are all carried into completion.
“From here it’s work, work, work, and more work for me,” he said.
The evaluation conducted was in accordance with the pertinent provisions of CHEd Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 16 Series of 2009, otherwise known as the Rules and Regulations Governing the Search for President of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs).
In its June meeting, the BOR decided to apply CMO No. 16 – which allowed for evaluation as an alternative to the regular search process for second termers – in the case of Chancellors of MSU campuses. It then adopted search procedures for the campus Chancellors.
